Two men have been badly injured in separate so called punishment beatings in a nationalist area of north Belfast. A 28 year old man had his right leg broken after he was beaten by a number of men wielding clubs in the New Lodge area at around 11 p.m. on Sunday night.

Less than half an hour later, in the same area, a 31 year old man sustained bruises fob his ribs, head and elbow when he was also attacked. It is believed the same gang was responsible for both assaults.
