Two men being held in relation to a pipe bomb find in Co Longford were released without charge this afternoon.

The 44-year-old man and his son (18) were arrested when eight viable pipe bombs were found during a search of a house on Killashee Road, Knockonboy, just outside Longford town on Sunday night.

A file has been sent by gardaí to the Director of Public Prosections.

The Army’s bomb disposal unit was called in at 9.35pm on Sunday to inspect the devices. The pipe bombs were made safe by 10.35pm without the need to carry out a controlled explosion.

Gardaí are trying to establish if the explosive devices were destined for the Limerick gangland feud.
