€2.1m cigarettes seized in Waterford

Contraband cigarettes with an estimated street value of €2.1 million have been seized in Waterford Port.

Contraband cigarettes with an estimated street value of €2.1 million have been seized in Waterford Port.

Officers from Revenue's Customs Service seized more than six million cigarettes that were concealed in a container that arrived from Zebrugge, Belgium yesterday.

The Gold Classic and Raquel Classic brands were found in the container that whose contents were listed as “toys”, according to a Revenue statement.

The seizure was as a result of risk profiling.
