Fifteen people were wounded after suspected militants threw a grenade at worshippers leaving a mosque in disputed Kashmir this morning.
A police officer said the grenade exploded outside the mosque in Jammu, the region's winter capital, just as worshippers streamed out after prayers.
It was the first major attack since India and Pakistan announced plans for formal talks this week.
India, which is battling a 14-year revolt in Muslim-majority Kashmir, and Pakistan have agreed to open talks next month to resolve all outstanding disputes, including the row over Kashmir.
But Kashmiri militant groups have vowed to continue targeting Indian forces in the Himalayan region, where more than 40,000 people have died in the rebellion.
