There was a 14 per cent increase in the use of the online service for people filing tax returns to the Revenue Commissioners this year.
According to the Revenue some 279,020 income tax returns were filed online up to the deadline of midnight last night with 37,000 filed yesterday alone.
The Revenue said that online payment of tax for the year amounted to more than €2.288 billion, a rise of nearly 4 per cent compared with the total of €2.201 billion recorded last year.
