130 jobs to go as Tallaght firm shuts

A Tallaght-based printing company is to close within four weeks with the loss of 130 jobs.

A Tallaght-based printing company is to close within four weeks with the loss of 130 jobs.

Microprint, which publishes computer manuals and magazines, said a fall in demand, competitive pressures from UK-based printers and its high cost structure had forced the closure.

Managing director, Alan Heatley, said the firm could no longer sustain its losses.

"Following serious financial losses since late 2006,and with an increasingly competitive environment and rising cost pressures, it is very clear that the company, which is losing a significant amount of money on a weekly basis, could not sustain a further period of heavy losses," he said.

Mr Heatley also said that the immediate aim was to commence negotiations with the trade union groups on a redundancy package.

The factory is to close on April 3 rd.
