Around 130 workers at Butler's Engineering in Portarlington face redundancy following the appointment of a receiver, Mr Ray Jackson of KPMG. The company has debts of £10 million.

Mr Jackson is negotiating with the creditors and State agencies to see if a rescue package can be put together. The company was set up 10 years ago and is involved in the structural engineering business. It has received £3.5 million in grants and equity from the IDA.
