A dozen people have been arrested and charged by police who uncovered cannabis factories across Northern Ireland, it was revealed tonight.

Police said over 250 suspected cannabis plants and more than two and a half kilograms of herbal cannabis - with a estimated street value of £156,000 - was seized.

A gun and ammunition was also seized during a two week crackdown.

The operation targeted cannabis factories and the cultivation of cannabis plants. Searches were carried out in Antrim, Banbridge, Belfast, Castlereagh, Coleraine, Craigavon, Larne, Lisburn, Newtownards , North Down and Omagh.

The twelve arrested and charged with possession of cannabis with intent to supply are due to appear in various magistrates courts in the coming weeks, said the PSNI.
