Jakarta - Violent communal clashes in Indonesia's spice islands killed 114 people and seriously wounded 70, the official Indonesian Antara news agency reported.

The agency said the fighting occurred yesterday morning on the island of Halmahera, scene of some of the most bitter attacks between rival Christian and Muslim villagers in recent months.
