An estimated €100,000 has been raised for the Capuchin Day Centre in Dublin since an appeal for funds on national radio two days ago. The centre, which serves breakfast and dinner to Dublin’s poor, has seen a dramatic increase in those availing of its services since the recession began. Food parcels are also handed out.

Br Kevin Crowley, director of the centre, said there was still post to be opened since Wednesday’s appeal on the Today with Pat Kenny radio programme. He said it was “absolutely fantastic” that despite many difficulties this Christmas, the people of Dublin had still managed to donate so generously.
