A 16-year-old schoolboy, impaled on a spiked fence when he fell from a "dangerous building", has been awarded £10,000 for personal injuries against Dublin Corporation.

Judge Harvey Kenny in Dublin Circuit Civil Court was told that Geoffrey Carey, of Kevin Barry House, Church Street, Dublin, fell as he climbed down a drainpipe on the former Lonergan's pub, North King Street

Mr Alex White, counsel for the youth, said the building was a trap and an allurement for children. His client was only II at the time.

Mr Roddy Horan, counsel for the corporation, denied liability, saying the building was sealed off by a corrugated fence.
