Staff at the Bank of Ireland branch in Blackrock, Co Dublin, were threatened by a man with a syringe during a bank raid yesterday.

A local Garda source said two men in their mid 20s went into the bank at about 3.10 p.m. One of them jumped over the counter and grabbed about £1,500 in cash while his accomplice held the syringe. The raiders escaped on foot.
