The latest U2 release, Pop, was one of the albums included in a 100,000 counterfeit CD seizure at Schipol Airport in The Netherlands. Almost 1,000 copies of the album were confiscated only two weeks after its release. Mr Dick Doyle, the chief executive of the Phonographic Performance, Ireland (PPI), the copyright agency for Ireland, said yesterday the seizure showed how widespread counterfeiting had become.

The shipment, worth $2.4 million, had originated in Bulgaria and was destined for eastern Europe.
