TROUBLED DIY chain Wickes announced the appointment of a new finance director, seven weeks after it revealed serious accounting irregularities. Mr Bill Hoskins will join the company following 13 years at specialist chemicals group Laporte, laterally as its finance director.

The current Wickes finance director, Mr Stuart Stradling, announced his intention to resign as soon as the discrepancies in the group profits for 1995 came to light.
