THE supermarket chain Wellworth has acquired a site in Cookstown, Co Tyrone, for the construction of a new 50,000 sq ft outlet. Work on the £7 million superstore, to be built on a site formerly occupied by Acheson Brickworks, is due to start early next year. Operations director, Mr Len O'Hagan, said the group had secured retail planning permission for the site, which is at Sweep Road and Linen Hall Road.

Sales and profits at Wellworths, which has 37 stores in Northern Ireland, rose by almost 10 per cent for the first six months of this year. Wellworths contributes over 70 per cent of the profits of its parent company, Fitzwilton.
