VHI director, Mr John MacMenamin, has resigned from the board citing pressure of other commitments. Mr MacMenamin, yesterday informed VHI chairman, Mr Derry Hussey of his decision.

In his letter of resignation, Mr MacManamin, said he had hoped to be able to maintain his commitment to VHI, following his appointment as chairman of the Bar Council last September. But explained "this has unfortunately proved impossible".

Mr MacMenamin was appointed to the board in 1996, at the same time as Mr Hussey became chairman.
