DAUPHIN struck the Margin as an unusual name for a US bank. According to the Oxford dictionary. the province of Dauphine was ceded to Philip of Valois in 1349, subject to the understanding that the title would apply to the eldest son of the king of France. Hence the title "Dauphin" applied to various heirs to the throne from 1349 to 1830.

No doubt AIB will be applying Madame Guillotine to cut Dauphin's costs and hoping for a royal return on its investment.
