The yield or interest rate on 30 year US treasury bonds plunged to 6.119 per cent yesterday, its lowest level since the treasury began issuing the securities on a regular basis in 1977. Yesterday's result was down from an average yield of 6.906 per cent at the previous auction on August 10th. The decline highlights the relaxed view among investors about the prospects for inflation and interest rates.
