British retail sales rose a larger-than-expected 0

British retail sales rose a larger-than-expected 0.9 per cent in July as shoppers snapped up seasonal discounts, the UK's Office for National Statistics said yesterday.

But the rise was offset by a downward revision to June's data to a 1.5 per cent drop from the previously estimated 1.1 per cent decline, which left the net effect over the two months broadly in line with economists' expectations.
