An average of 1,644 flights passed through Irish airspace every day in June, according to new figures from the Irish Aviation Authority.
This marks a 1.8 per cent rise in air traffic compared to the same month a year earlier.
Air traffic figures for the first six months of the year rose by 5 per cent compared to the same period a year earlier, once adjustments are made to compensate for the Icelandic volcanic ash crisis in April and May 2010.
The data shows that commercial air traffic for Dublin, Shannon and Cork airports were up by 1.5 per cent compared to the same month in 2010.
Commercial flights at Shannon were up 22.5 per cent during June with 1,905 flights compared to 1,555 for June 2010.
The number of flights at Cork was down 3.5 per cent to 2,159 from 2,237 and was unchanged at Dublin at 14,366.
Flights between Europe and North America which passed through Irish airspace, but did not land here, rose by 2.1 per cent over the year.
