Air Canada Rouge, the leisure offshoot of Canada's national airline, has begun direct services from Dublin Airport to Vancouver.

The airline will fly three times a week from Dublin to Vancouver the first non-stop service to the city on Canada’s Pacific coast.

Dublin Airport managing director, Vincent Harrison, said that traffic between the Republic and Canada has been growing strongly in recent years.

He added that the airport had been been working to add further destinations in the country. Air Canada Rouge already flies year-round from Dublin to Toronto.

" We're sure that there will be strong demand for this new route both from Canada and Ireland, " Mr Harrison said.

Tourism Ireland chief executive, Niall Gibbons said that the agency would work with the airline to market Ireland in Vancouver.
