SHANNON Development is to begin work next month on its £3.7 million tourism project at Castle Lane/King John's Castle in Limerick.

Construction will take about a year and the project should be open in time for the 1998 tourism season. The project involves the recreation of a late 17th/early 18th century Irish streetscape, and will include a tavern and banqueting hall of the period. An evening entertainment programme is planned, aimed particularly at British and continental tourists.
