Tipperary Crystal workers have voted overwhelmingly in favour of strike action after the company refused to accept a Labour Court recommendation to seek voluntary redundancies and issued redundancy notices to 29 workers earlier this week.

Workers at the Crystal factory near Carrick-on-Suir voted in favour of issuing a 14-day strike notice to the company at an ATGWU meeting in Carrick-on-Suir.

The secret ballot of workers followed the failure of negotiations between the union and Tipperary Crystal management on Tuesday afternoon.

Management at Tipperary Crystal has expressed grave concern at the decision and claims the action will further jeopardise its capability to reorganise the company in a manner which would secure its future viability.
