The Dow Jones closed above the 6300 barrier for the first time last night. Share prices in Dublin fell sharply with the main feature being profit taking in the main financial shares. Bank of Ireland results were in line with forecasts but the share still fell sharply.

London stock prices were virtually unchanged after a late rally brought the market from the low reached after the British inflation figures were announced.
