THE latest retail sales show a strong rise in January, presumably as shoppers took advantage of the sales. The value of sales rose 3.7 per cent in January on a provisional seasonally adjusted basis. The year on year rise was 6.8 per cent, according to data from the Central Statistics Office. Revised figures for December show that retail sales fell less than first thought at the end of the year.
