Strong dollar aids markets

The Frankfurt stock market made a small gain thanks to support from a strong Wall Street performance. DaimlerBenz was much in demand and rose by 1.10 marks on the day to 88.45, continuing to benefit from recent buy recommendations. But Volkswagen fell by 6.45 marks to 583.75 after a federal judge in Detroit decided that the industrial espionage suit filed by GM and Opel against VW can take place in the US.

CAC 40: 2,165.33 (+7.01)

The Paris Bourse scored a moderate advance despite a hesitant start.

Traders said use of a strike by civil servants and some other groups yesterday initially unnerved the market, but the Bourse firmed late in the session thanks to a strong bond market and the firm dollar.

Shares in Milan shook off concerns over continued warnings that southern European nations will struggle to meet the conditions for entry to a single European currency and ended a day of largely technical trading higher.
