Production of hundreds of Ford Fiesta cars in Britain, worth about £6 million, was lost yesterday because of an unofficial pay strike at the company's biggest plant.

Around 200 workers at the giant assembly factory in Dagenham, Essex walked out in protest at a two-year pay offer worth 5.5 per cent, which has already been rejected by union leaders.
