Average weekly earnings in the State sector rose by 3.3 per cent in the year to September 1999, the Central Statistics Office has reported. It said a 6,200 fall in number of State workers to 210,100 last September was partly due the privatisation of Telecom Eireann, now Eircom. The statistics excluded workers in the health services.
