Up to 1,000 jobs are likely to be filled as a result of the High Skills Pool recruitment fair which ended in Dublin yesterday. The fair was one of the largest ever staged in the Republic and was attended by more than 15,000 people.

It provided a chance for large companies, some of them experiencing skill shortages to recruit newly qualified graduates and returning emigrants.

More than 70 companies participated in the event which is likely to move to a larger venue next year because of the increasing numbers of firms interested in taking part.

The majority of companies participating were computer or software firms, many of which have experienced skill shortages in recent years.
