THE £425 million sterling acquisition of the Courage brewing business marked the pinnacle of Scottish & Newcastle's achievements last year and had already made a strong impression on earnings, the company said yesterday. The chairman, Sir Alick Rankin, described the acquisition as a "historic aspiration". He added. "The company has delivered trading results that are thoroughly encouraging."
