THE Revenue Commissioners have tightened up on motoring expenses. According to a new leaflet released yesterday companies will not be allowed to use systems with rates higher than those on offer to civil servants. These schemes can be used without specific Revenue approval, if the company has satisfactory recording and internal controls. However, an employee can opt to claim tax relief for any expenses. In this case, any reimbursement by the employer would be regarded as pay and taxed accordingly.
