THE Government last night published a draft of new regulations to promote recycling of packaging waste. Under the measures, which come into effect in May 1997, manufacturers of packaging and those who supply it will be required to help recycle the material. IBEC welcomed the regulations, stressing that the initiative was industry-led, and would bring the Republic into line with the European Union packaging directive, which requires member states to recycle specified amounts of packaging waste.
