PRE tax profits at BAA, owner of Britain's biggest airports, climbed in the nine months to the end of December to £374 million sterling.

Its airports, including Gatwick, Heathrow and Stansted, handled 73.4 million passengers during the period, up 4.1 million. Income from airport charges increased by 4.5 per cent to £380 million.
