Profits falls at European Leisure

European Leisure has recorded a drop in pre-tax profit from £7.0 million sterling to £0

European Leisure has recorded a drop in pre-tax profit from £7.0 million sterling to £0.57 million in the year ended June 30th, 1998. This reversal was entirely due to exceptional write offs in what the company calls a "transition" year. If these are stripped out, the underlying growth, at the operating stage, showed a gain from £6.3 million to £7.2 million.

The latest results show a rise in sales from the continuing operations from £59.9 million to £65.5 million. While there was a profit of £9.0 million from the disposal of Maygay Machines, there was a write down of £15.5 million on property which resulted in the pre-tax profit downturn. However a final dividend of 3.25p has been declared, making a total of 4.5per cent, representing a 12.5 per cent increase.
