The trend towards satellite connections for Internet access continues with PostGEM, the parent company of Internet service provider, Ireland On-Line, the latest to introduce the service. This connection is PostGEM's second venture into satellite technology, following the news group satellite feed it set up last year. PostGEM says it hopes the move will improve the speed, quality and reliability of its Internet access. The satellite feed will run parallel with the existing terrestrial lines, with the idea of providing a "safety net" should any bottlenecks or problems occur on the land lines. The new connection is expected to increase the speed of PostGEM's corporate Internet service by adding additional bandwidth.
