British oil firm BP Amoco confirmed yesterday that it was in talks which may lead to a takeover bid for British lubricants firm Burmah Castrol. Shares in Burmah Castrol closed up 280 pence at 1245p sterling. At that price, the world's biggest lubricants maker would be worth some £2.2 billion.
