Nomura hit by scandal

JAPAN'S Nomura Securities Co. Ltd

JAPAN'S Nomura Securities Co. Ltd. was engulfed by scandal yesterday for the second time this decade after revealing top managers were suspected of illegal stock trading to pay off gangsters.

Its president was widely expected to resign and the finance ministry was said to be considering suspending the operations of the giant broking house, a similar punishment to one meted out in 1991 for stock loss compensation.
