THE economist, Prof William Vickrey, co laureate of the 1996 Nobel prize for economics, has died of a heart attack at the age of 82, just two days after he had won the award.

The Canadian born economist was awarded the economics prize on Tuesday, along with Briton Mr James Mirrlees, 60, for helping improve understanding of how policy makers deal with incomplete information when making decisions on issues such as tax and credit.
