THE Department of Transport, Energy and Communications has announced a new petroleum exploration licensing round covering almost 150,000 sq km in the Rockall Trough area off the north west coast.

The acreage on offer covers 615 full and 35 part blocks and the area has been designated as a frontier area. Discoveries in designated frontier areas qualify for the special 25 per cent Corporation Tax on profits.
