THE British government was accused of union bashing last night after unveiling a fresh crackdown on strikes aimed at protecting the public from disruption caused by industrial action.

Union leaders said ministers had misjudged the public mood, and even employers were unenthusiastic. But Trade President Mr Ian Lang said a resurgence of union militancy had sparked the need for a new law.
