MR Roger Lyons, the general secretary of the MSF union, said that the trade union movement in Ireland and internationally needed to reform itself to ensure that it remained relevant in the highly competitive worldwide marketplace. Mr Lyons, speaking on a visit to Ireland where the union has 30,000 members, said that many traditional union structures no longer reflected what was happening in the workplace and could not deal with the resulting issues.
