Germany's Bundesbank is investigating whether a high-level spy was recruited from its ranks to pass on sensitive economic information to Britain's intelligence agency MI6, the central bank said yesterday.

The Bundesbank was commenting on a report in the British media which cited a renegade former MI6 officer as saying his previous masters paid a lot of money to a well-placed German national agent or "mole" to spy on the bank.
