A US District Court judge yesterday set September 8th as a tentative trial date for the US government's antitrust case against Microsoft, court sources said.

Judge Thomas Penfield Jackson turned down a Microsoft request for a period of seven months to prepare its defence.

The company was hit with sweeping antitrust suits on Monday filed by the Justice Department and a coalition of 20 states.
