SHAREHOLDERS yesterday gave their blessing to the merger of Royal Insurance and Sun Alliance, two of Britain's biggest insurers, in the face of protests from unions that the deal would be bad for staff and customers. The two companies are merging to form Royal Sun Alliance, which will become Britain's biggest insurer, valued at £5.4 billion sterling and with 16 per cent market share.
