The president and chief operations officer of Jefferson Smurfit Group Mr Gary McGann (49), has been appointed to the board with immediate effect, the company announced yesterday. It was also announced that company secretary, Mr Michael Pettigrew, will retire on April 1st, 2000. He will be succeeded by Mr Michael O'Riordan, the current joint managing director of Smurfit International BV, the group's international holding company.
