SHARE prices surged following the publication of the US jobs figures and shot to a new trading high of 2703.59 points on the computerised IBIS index which" measures after-hours trading.

Paris CAC-40: 2152.69 (+16.6)

French shares ran up solid gains, boosted by bond markets which themselves were driven upwards by the unexpected rise in US unemployment. The strength of Wall Street and the move to a new all-time high in London were other factors which drove the market ahead.

Milan Mibtel: 10087 (-212)

Italian shares suffered a sharp correction despite the American unemployment figures and failed to be excited by the gains on international equity markets.
