German shares stabilised after their sharp drop in line with government Bunds on the US data jobs data. The market was unmoved by weaker Wall Street opening.

French shares closed sharply lower after higher than expected US June non farm payroll data and falls in US markets, but managed to get back from lows to just below the key 2,100 level.

Italian stocks ended down but off day's lows in a selective market, supported by a late rally for Fiat and insurer Generali and in T-bonds after stronger than expected June non farm payrolls, traders said.
