French shares set a record closing high for the third consecutive day yesterday, shrugging off stronger-than-expected US employment figures. The CAC-40 hit a historic intra-day high of 2718.95 before easing slightly.

DAX: 3419.40 (+22.85)

Frankfurt experienced a rollercoaster day, falling, then rising, after the release of the US employment data. The morning saw a significant, but predicted, level of profit-taking, followed by mild consolidation.

Mibtel: 12,230 (+166)

Italian shares were boosted by the Wall Street rush, ending the day just off session highs. Dealers said the market was also reacting well to the easing of political tension in Italy.
