Shares closed firmer yesterday, buoyed by a solid dollar, speculation about takeovers in the chemical sector and positive corporate results.

The Xetra DAX index of 30 blue chip stock closed up 49.63 points, with chemical shares doing well.

Paris CAC-40 : 4041.2 (+26.2)

Shares finished firm but off the days highs, with trading volume inflated by large blocks of stock and trades tied to expiry of May futures and options, brokers said.
