The Dublin market had a steady day and closed at 2322.69. Domestic trading was buoyed by a positive mood in London. The British market dealt up after the release of good British inflation figures and publication of the Scott report which did not appear to endanger John Major's government.

The Footsie gained 34.8 points on the day to end at 3,779.8 points. The Dow Jones fell in late trading.
